I am your FEATHER... The Darth Vader Bird is my second hybrid. The scene depicts our feathered Sith friend on the volcanic planet of Mustafar, where the brutal duel took place with Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. I felt that the hardest part about this one was choosing a good backdrop. You obviously need outer space if you want to make any Star Wars theme, but the main thing you need is an iconic location. I thought about where to keep him. The Death Star interior wouldn't look too good, and neither would Echo Base on the snowy planet of Hoth. Then, I thought that the best Darth Vader background would be fiery. So I decided Mustafar, because that is where Anakin got transformed into Darth Vader after that fatal injury. I also decided that I need the Death Star somewhere. So I put it on the top left corner. When I looked at this one up in person, the black crayon blended in too much with the helmet. But when I took the picture, you can kind of see where everything is.
Now, finally, onto the bird itself. Again, like my Jack-O-Lantern bird, this and all other future hybrids will revolve around the basic red bird design. Since the beak is made up of a large upright triangle on the top, and a smaller upside-down triangle on the bottom, I realized Darth's mouthpiece has the "teeth" on top, and the breathing holes on the bottom, and it's two triangles! So, I drew the teeth on the top of the beak, and the breathing sockets on the bottom. As for the eyes, they are a rounded, triangular shape on the red bird in the game. So, I made the edge of the helmet lining the eyes an arrow shape, and the helmet eyepieces shaped like the eyes of the bird in the game. With that, I could then also put the "arrow" eyebrows on the helmet, and then make it really look like the Vader suit was made for the bird.
Plus, I added a lightsaber to really enhance the Darth Vader effect.
More hybrids coming soon!
